As a special holiday treat to you, my dearest readers, I decided to send out a special unreleased article I wrote for another publication last winter. Enjoy!
One of my favorite questions to ask friends mid-rotation is what celebrities they'd want to smoke with. Almost immediately the typical famous stoners we all know and love spring to mind. You could invite Wiz Khalifa and his endless supply of green and Pittsburgh swag. Or you could invite Willie Nelson and be blessed with the wisdom of a man who’s seen it all. Or perhaps, you could invite a pre-pregnancy Rihanna to give you a crash course on how to roll a blunt while on the shoulders of a bodyguard in the crowds of Coachella.
But one of the essential things about a large group session, with celebrities or not, is curating the right vibe. You need someone to bring the laughs, entertaining stories, and of course, delicious munchies. I asked myself that same question and came up with the top five celebrities I’d want to invite over to join the session.
1. Seth Rogen
My first pick would have to be Seth Rogen. The actor is best known for his iconic roles in stoner classic comedies Knocked Up and Pineapple Express, but Seth also has his own cannabis company, Houseplant, that makes everything a modern stoner may need. Seth not only would bring laughs and some of the coolest ashtrays I’ve ever seen but he’s been donned as the best joint roller that Snoop Dogg has ever seen. This is demonstrated of course by the join made famous by Rogen himself - the cross joint. Seth also rolled all the joints in Pineapple Express himself! Inviting Seth to the sesh would ensure that the rotation never ends.
2. Kacey Musgraves
Every next-level sesh needs someone to help curate the aesthetics, and for that, I’m bringing in Kacey Musgraves. The Grammy-winning country music star is not shy about her love for the slow burn. Kacey would bring melodic heartfelt twangy tunes and the most aesthetically pleasing session location ever. In Architectural Digest‘s May 2022 cover story, the artist reveals her stunning Nashville, Tennessee home that features modern bohemian design and personal touches such as a framed half-smoked joint she once shared with Willie Nelson on tour in 2014. The cozy and eye-catching estate would be perfect to kick back with a group of friends and reminisce over some mary jane.
3. Dave Chappelle
During every legendary session, one person tells a story that will make your jaw drop to the floor. That story could be reminiscing on the time they got arrested with a one-hitter in college, or the time they made it backstage at a music festival and partied with the cast of The Bachelor. Who is better equipped to name-drop some insane celebrity stories than Dave Chappelle?
Chappelle is best known for his sometimes controversial comedic takes and the iconic stoner cult classic - 1998’s Half Baked. Chappelle began his career in the 90s, cutting his teeth in famed New York comedy clubs and buying weed Idris Elba - so you know this man has seen some shit. Chappelle has toked with the best of them. Chappelle would bring thought-provoking discussions, laughs, and insane tales of celebrities big and small. Just don’t invite Danny Brown along. Chappelle noted that Brown once gave him a joint that caused epic set bombing mayhem at a Detroit stand-up show. This a reminder that even more for the most seasoned stoners among us, tolerances are not always created equal.
4. David Chang
A special ingredient to every session is the person who brings not only good vibes but Michelin star-level munchies. Enter David Chang - the genius chef and restauranteur behind the Momofuku restaurant group. Dave has been known to indulge a bit with other stoner pals such as Seth Rogen as seen on his Netflix show Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner when the duo ate across Vancouver.
Momofuku also introduced us to the holy grail condiment which is chili crisp, which has quickly become a pantry staple for me. Of course, Dave would bring the heat! Not only would Dave bring gourmet munchies, but he’d also bring creativity. Momofuku Noodle Bar in New York City offers a caviar and fried chicken experience that is the epitome of a high/low munchie experience. I’m hungry just thinking about it.
5. Snoop Dogg
Finally, we come to the Dogg-father himself. Snoop D-O double G. Snoop Lion Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. Whatever you call him - you know he is the most iconic stoner alive today.
Snoop would bring endless kush karma and good vibes to any sessions he rolls into. He carries himself with such an inviting casualness that surely he’d roll in and make himself comfortable whether the sesh takes place in a sprawling California mansion or your mom’s basement. Snoop would make the rotation a moment. With 17 Grammy nominations under his belt, the multi-hyphenated superstar will surely take over the aux chord and drop sick beats and iconic verses with that signature Long Beach swagger. It would be an honor and a privilege to share a blunt with Snoop Dogg.
